Note 1: Not quite sure that Alex. is the correct father of Alex (1761-1817). Going by experience of parents naming their first borns after themselves or their parents, it seems that Alexander is correct. Jean, John and Elspeth all follow the tradition of being named after their grandparents, except Isabel. A search on Isable (Isobel) did not show any records with a child called Alexander in areas in or near Elgin. But this still does not mean that this record is correct.

Alexander Gatherer in Thornhill & Jean Smith his spouse had a lawful son bapt. name Alexander Alexander Gatherer Alexander -------- Ann Gellian Margaret Ogilvie witnesses.

After being contracted of their matrimonial bannes legally initiated in the Parish Church were married here Alexander Gatherer and Elizabeth Russell both in this Parish before a competent number of witnesses.

Alexander Gatherer Taylor in Elgin and Elizabeth Russell his spouse had a child baptised called Alexander Witnesses Alexander Young, Alexander Phip, Elspeth Smith and Ann Baden.
Note 5: Took an apprentice Hugh Russell (probably his wife's nephew)
